Moisturizers hydrate your skin so that it can perform its natural functions optimally. Emollients

Emollients are also effective balancing agents for your skin’s microbiome as it lowers inflammatory tendencies and soothe signs of irritation.
Emollient moisturizers are generally lightweight and contain Ceramides, Cocoa Butter, Lanolin, Shea Butter or Jojoba Oil.
Humectants
A popular moisturizer type, humectants work by extracting moisture from the environment and binding it to the surface layer of your skin so that it stays hydrated all day. Perfect for all skin types, this fast-absorbing moisturizer typically has a light consistency which means it is comfortable to wear under makeup.
Humectant moisturizers can be formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Lactic Acid or Aloe Vera.
Occlusives
Occlusive moisturizers create a physical barrier on your skin that aids in preventing water loss. They block the evaporation of moisture from your skin so that it stays hydrated and supple all day long. This type of moisturizer tends to be oil, wax or silicone-based and has a thicker texture which makes it ideal for women with a dry or mature skin type.
